Acorn finial

Rounded ornamentation on top of a loose-joint butt.

Aluminium cladding

Cladding of aluminium fixed on the outside frame and/or sash of a window made of wood or vinyl/PVC.

Architrave

The moulded frame at the panels around a door or window.

Argon

A gas used to fill the space between the two layers of glass in insulating panes. Argon is a colourless, odourless, and inert gas less thermal conductive than atmospheric air. The chemical symbol is “Ar“.

Art nouveau window

A window from the architectural period Art Nouveau, about 1890-1915. A typical art nouveau window has organic, highly-stylized, flowing curvilinear forms in sash and glazing bars/muntins. The panes are often coloured glass with floral and other plant-inspired motifs.
