The Windows of Copenhagen - a podwalk

Joins us on a guided tour of Copenhagen historic Windows

Join VILLUM Window Collection on a walking tour through the streets of Copenhagen and experience the city's many different windows. In collaboration with restoration architect Søren Vadstrup, VILLUM Window Collection has produced a three-part podwalk that delves into the stories behind window design and its significance for building culture.

Find the link to the podcast at the bottom of the article.

On the podwalk, restoration architect Søren Vadstrup and VILLUM Window Collections architect Alberte Brinckmann will take you on a window tour through the Inner City of Copenhagen. Windows have always been crucial for our access to fresh air and daylight, and during the tour, you will be presented with examples of windows from various architectural styles, ranging from the Romanesque windows of the Middle Ages to today's climate-friendly glass facades.

All windows carry a story about a society, a building technique, a craft, a material, a function, a form, and a narrative that deserves to be told. Therefore, the church, the town hall, the apartment building, the corner building, the shop, the castle, and the theater are all given equal attention.

The tour starts at the Design Museum Denmark in Bredgade and ends at BLOX on Bryghuspladsen. You can choose to walk the entire tour in one day or divide it into several trips.

We recommend that you "walk" the tour in chronological order, but you can, of course, take the tours as you wish. All you need to do is follow the links below to the podcast or play the videos, and the podwalk will guide you the rest of the way.
