The first Copenhagen Architecture Biennial takes place this year and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the VILLUM Window Collection. To celebrate, the museum is hosting a range of events focusing on the history and importance of the window.

From September 18th to October 19th the museum will be open every day from 11:00 AM–5:00 PM and on Thursdays until 7:00 PM.

You can explore the following events during the Biennial:

 

Lecture & Workshop: Japanese Windows and Shoji Craft
VILLUM Window Collection, Maskinvej 4, Søborg
September 23, 4:00–7:00 PM

In collaboration with the Window Research Institute (Tokyo), architect and professor Taro Igarashi will give a lecture on the history of Japanese windows. After the talk, the institute will demonstrate how traditional Shoji windows are made with washi paper.

 

Daylight Talk: Sense of Site, Perception of Light

Architects Trine Hedeager Harboe and Malene Hjortsø Kyndesen from Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects will give a Daylight Talk about the studio’s work and use of daylight in their projects. They will show different projects and share how they approach daylight in their design process. Organized in collaboration with Daylight and Architecture.

 

Daylight Walk: Windows and Daylight at Bispebjerg Hospital

A guided walk through the historic buildings of Bispebjerg Hospital with Arne Høi (Head of Institute) and Louise Grønlund (Associate Professor,) from the Royal Danish Academy. Learn about window types, daylight, and the healing qualities of 20th-century hospital architecture.

 

Podwalk Release: The Windows of Copenhagen
Designmuseum Denmark, Bredgade 68, Copenhagen
October 4, 3:00 PM

Launch of the English edition of the podwalk Københavns Vinduer – The Windows of Copenhagen – with architect Søren Vadstrup. The podwalk takes listeners through Copenhagen’s window history, from the Middle Ages to modern glass façades, and can be enjoyed anytime.

 

Extra Guided Tours: Window Behaviorology

Special guided tours of the exhibition Window Behaviorology, curated by Yoshiharu Tsukamoto (Atelier Bow-Wow). Learn how windows affect human behaviour, architectural choices, and culture.

 

Copenhagen Architecture Biennial 2025
The Copenhagen Architecture Biennial takes place from September 18 to October 19, 2025 with the theme Slow Down, encouraging visitors to reflect on the fast pace of modern life and its effect on the built environment. The Biennial includes more than 150 events across the city.
