In the gallery, selected works from the museum's art collection are displayed.

VILLUM Window Collection has a growing art collection, which includes both paintings and photographs, classical and modern works. What is common for them all is the motif of a window.

The window as a motif recurs in both older and modern art. Firstly, it is where light enters, creating dramatic effects of light and shadow - something many artists spend their entire career working with. Furthermore, the act of looking in and out of windows carries strong symbolic meanings. Various things happen around them; they are where people meet, exchange glances and engage in conversation. They also evoke feelings of longing for the world outside and provide an opportunity for contemplation.

Since 2022, visitors have also had the opportunity to experience the art installation "You would come back there to see me again the following day" by Japanese artist Tsuda Michiko. The art installation was acquired in connection with the previous Japanese special exhibition "Windowology: New Architectural Views from Japan".

The interactive installation consists of floating frames with mirrors and screens, reflecting images of the exhibition's visitors and thereby drawing attention to how we behave around windows. We look in and out, are reflected, observe others, and may even be observed ourselves.

By projecting images of the visitors in unexpected places, the work is designed to alter the experience of space and create a labyrinthine visual experience.

The artist Tsuda Michiko works with installation, performance, and video, focusing on the perception of time and space.
