The earliest findings of windows with glass panes date back to Ancient Rome. Roman windows are surprisingly similar to windows of our time. Remains of windows in former Roman baths are built on the same principles as modern double-glazed windows with two layers of glass.
By using double-glazed windows, it was possible to use the sunlight to illuminate the rooms and at the same time keep the heat inside.
