Louver

A louver is an opening in the roof above a firepit, from where smoke can escape, and light enter. A louver is also known as a ‘roof eye’ or ‘vindauga’ (Old Norse) – ‘vind’ meaning roof and ‘auga’ meaning eye. If the opening is placed in the gable, it is named ‘owl hole’.
