Self-cleaning glass with nano coating was developed in 2001.
Self-cleaning glass is coated with titanium dioxide on the outside. When the glass is exposed to UV-radiation, organic dirt on the surface is broken down. Furthermore, the coating is hydrophilic (attracts water), which means water spreads evenly over the entire surface, when it rains, making it more efficient in washing away the broken-down dirt.
