Today window glass can be sound-absorbing, sun-shielding and capable of converting the sun's energy into electricity and heat. It can be patterned and coloured, it can stop fires, save bird life, and clean itself. A windowpane is much more than just a sheet of transparent glass that provides light and visibility; there are numerous types of glass with special/added functions, with more being developed all the time.
