Édouard Bénédictus

In 1903, the French chemist Édouard Bénédictus by accident discovered the process behind laminated glass. Benedictus dropped a beaker with a cellulose nitrate solution and found that it broke but did not splinter. The solution had left a thin film on the inside of the beaker which held the glass together. In 1909 the chemist patented the first laminated glass.
