Villum Kann Rasmussen

In 1942, Villum Kann Rasmussen, a Danish civil engineer and entrepreneur, developed a new roof window with a wood frame and sash and an exterior zinc cladding. It was given the name VELUX, derived from the word ventilation and the latin word for light, LUX. In 1945, a pivot hinge was invented to tilt the sash around its own axis.
