New curved window in the collection

  • Øresunds Palæ 592X393 (1)

We look forward to showcasing the new windows in the collection when we re-open in August. For instance, this unique window with curved glass, which is an early Danish example of machine-drawn cylinder glass from Øresunds Palæ in Østerbro, Copenhagen.

From around 1904 it became possible to blow cylinder glass by machine in lengths up to 12 meters using compressed air. The large, machine-drawn cylinders were used for curved windows in e.g., shop windows, and as here in bay windows.

The window was designed in 1907 by the architect Fridlev Jacobsen, who is known for his collaboration with the trendsetting Danish architect, Ulrik Plesner.
